Sylvie Parent, PhD, is a Full Professor in the Physical Education Department at Université Laval. Since 2004, her research has focused on violence in sport. More specifically, her current work focuses on 5 themes:

  • Measuring the prevalence of violence against athletes and related factors;
  • The impact of violence in sport on the physical and mental health of young participants;
  • The violence experienced by young officials in the context of their duties;
  • The different contexts of athlete victimization;
  • The training needs of coaches and other sports stakeholders on the issue of violence in sport.

In 2020, Ms. Parent was entrusted with the responsibility of directing the Research Chair in Safety and Integrity in Sport. In recent months, she has been appointed co-chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Sport, advising the federal Minister of Sport on issues such as safe sport. In addition to her involvement in Québec and Canada, Ms. Parent’s expertise is recognized around the world, as evidenced by two prestigious invitations: her contribution as an expert to the International Olympic Committee’s Safeguarding Officer Course, and her participation as an author in the International Olympic Committee’s next Consensus Statement on Safeguarding in Sport, to be published in 2023.

Sylvie Parent is in charge of organizing the first Safety Integrity in Sport Congress, to be held at the Québec City Convention Centre in 2025.
