Jean-Marie De Koninck was a professor in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Université Laval for more than 40 years. Currently a professor emeritus, he is a member of the Québec City Ambassadors’ Club and was an active member of the organizing committee for the Canadian Number Theory Conference held in Québec City in July 2018.

His primary research interests were analytical number theory, prime number distribution, number factorization, the asymptotic behaviour of arithmetical functions, and the Riemann zeta function.

Professor De Koninck is well known as the founding president of Operation Red Nose and is the author of 15 books and 146 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. A gifted communicator, he has helped unveil the mysteries of science to the general public. He has also been invited to speak at many Canadian and U.S. universities as well as in France, Germany, Hungary, Serbia, South Africa, Australia, and Mexico.

The numerous accolades he has received over the years include the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) award in 2018 for his work to promote science.
