Elena Torfs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Water Engineering at Université Laval.

Her research group specializes in the development of advanced and generic modeling technologies to support the transition to a more sustainable water management. Her research focuses on the connectivity between data and models for the development of digital twins and advanced control algorithms for real-time optimization and decision-making.

She is Chair of the Specialist Group on Integrated Water Cycle Modeling of the International Water Association.

In the Québec City area, she has already organized the following conferences:

  • 12th IWA International Conference on Instrumentation, Control and Automation (2017)
  • 6th IWA/WEF Water Resource Recovery Modelling Seminar (2018)

In September 2023, she has co-organized, with ambassador Peter Vanrolleghem, the 11th IWA Symposium on Modelling and Integrated Assessments (Watermatex).
