Marie-Hélène Deschamps is an assistant professor at the Animal Science Department of Laval University. As holder of the Chaire de leadership en enseignement en production et transformation primaire d’insectes comestibles (CLEIC), she teaches tomorrow’s agronomists to address the various challenges facing the entotechnology sector in Québec. President of the Table filière en production et transformation d’insectes comestibles du Québec, she actively works to have the sector recognized and to strategically structure its development in partnership with the industry.
As a biologist specializing in ecology, physiology and animal nutrition, Marie-Hélène Deschamps is particularly interested in the valorization of residual organic matter and the mass production of edible insects, with a view to redirecting them to animal feeding. Her work aims to acquire and transfer new knowledge in this emerging field and to create a stimulating research environment to address the various issues in the sector. A general effort to implement an applied circular economy model and optimize the exploitation of Québec’s agri-food resources.
In June 2022, Ms. Deschamps has organized the 4th International Conference Insects to Feed the World with Mr. Grant Vandenberg, where close to 500 experts in the subject were in Québec City.
