The high-calibre scientists at Universit\u00e9 Laval in Qu\u00e9bec City are true heroes during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to help and share knowledge with their peers, Qu\u00e9bec City scientists are working relentlessly in their research to help the world fight COVID-19 and prevent other pandemics from arising. In fact, thanks to their broad expertise, they are working on a multitude of projects, including for vaccines, medication, detecting and understanding viruses, respiratory equipment, and decision-making tools.<\/p>\n

In addition to using their know-how for the betterment of human health, scientists are helping to put Qu\u00e9bec City and the Province of Qu\u00e9bec on the world\u2019s centre stage by organizing major conferences that showcase the quality of local research and the city\u2019s leading-edge scientific infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Simon Duchesne<\/strong><\/a>, Researcher at the CERVO Brain Research Centre, and his team have developed a tool that helps to prioritize patients who need to be hooked up to ventilators. The decision-making algorithm will help healthcare professionals more quickly determine the course of action to take for critically ill patients.<\/p>\n

Grant Vandenberg<\/strong>, Professor at the Universit\u00e9 Laval\u2019s Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, has worked with two distilleries in the Qu\u00e9bec City region to transform their gin manufacturing process into the production of much needed disinfectant gels.<\/p>\n

As a seasoned virologist and researcher at the Centre de recherche du CHU de Qu\u00e9bec \u2013 Universit\u00e9 Laval (CRCHU), Louis Flamand<\/strong> is currently studying the human immune system\u2019s response to the coronavirus, which causes the lungs to become inflamed in people afflicted with the illness.<\/p>\n
