Alain Olivier is a professor in the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at Université Laval and has held the Chair in International Development since 2011. He leads this Chair with enthusiasm that is reflected in, among other things, his organization of conferences and round tables, the establishment of a student conference in international development, the organization of two summer schools and an international scholarship and research program. Since this chair has grown while in Olivier’s care, it not only promotes the reputation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences, its home faculty, but also throughout the university community and beyond.

Olivier is in demand worldwide for his skills in agroforestry, and he also spearheaded the ambitious Agricultural Training for Food Security in Mali project, which will help 35 Malian teachers to pursue second and third cycle studies at Université Laval.

Olivier and his colleague Nancy Gélinas from the Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics are co-organizing the 5th World Congress on Agroforestry (WCA5) to be held from July 17 to 20, 2022 at the Québec City Convention Centre, a first in Canada. More than 1,000 agroforestry experts and farmers from around the world are expected in the capital.
